Don’t be a mute spectator, be the change

March 10, 2015 By Sandhya C D'Souza

Residents of New KEB road, Ittamadu layout were relieved when an open storm water drain was closed with concrete slabs. However, their happiness was short-lived as a contractor of a building being constructed nearby found the newly laid drain a perfect place to dump construction material and concrete mixers.

As many as 8 to 9 heavy weight mixers were parked on the drain, making the residents apprehensive that the storm water drain may break.

Within a few days, this place turned into a dump yard as people found it very convenient to dispose garbage here, urinate and also smoke.

Sudheendra a resident of the area was not ready to put up with the apathy and asked the contractor to remove the construction material. However, when his requests fell on deaf ears, he posted a complaint on IChangeMyCity as well as got in touch with the area Corporator.

“Public property should not be misused. The residents were very happy when the open drain which posed danger to people’s lives was closed. However, dumping heavy construction material will only damage the drain,” he tells IChangeMyCity and adds that he won’t be a mere spectator when health, cleanliness and security of his neighbourhood are put at stake.

Sudheendra’s complaint helped in resolving the issue, as the contractor was made to clear the construction material.

Happy that he made a difference in his neighbourhood, Sudheendra asks Bengalureans not to be mere spectators to civic issues; instead voice out to bring change.
