  • Abhishek’s perseverance resolved garbage dumping menace in Sanjay Nagar.

For over six months, garbage kept piling up near the railway track between Nagashetty Halli and Bhadrappa Layout on Outer Ring Road. The garbage that was being dumped on the footpath soon started spilling onto the road and with BBMP not clearing it, the place became an unofficial dump yard.

The garbage attracted strays, rains made the area more messy and stinky and the residents of the area feared an outbreak of disease, if the situation continued.

Abhishek, a resident of Bhadrappa Layout who highlighted the issue on IChangeMyCity points out that the public as well as the BBMP are at fault. “Maybe it’s the Indian mentality. When one sees garbage, they end up throwing more garbage,” he says. He further adds that commercial establishments in the area also contributed to the garbage pile.

However, BBMP cannot claim that the issue was not brought to their notice. “BBMP trucks were parked near the garbage pile every day,” says Abhishek sharing a picture with IChangeMyCity.

When the issue kept growing and the public as well as the municipal authority became apathetic towards it, Abhishek highlighted the same on IChangeMyCity.

The complaint was forwarded to the BBMP. Other IChangeMyCity users were shocked to see the garbage photos shared by Abhishek and showed support by voting up on his complaint.

IChangeMyCity regularly followed up on the issue and also discussed the problem with BBMP AEE Malli. Mr Malli assured to arrange a JCB to clear the garbage on May 12. The very same day, Mr Malli got the garbage cleared and Abhishek confirmed the resolution on his complaint.

As of today, the area remains to be garbage free. An active citizen, a complaint on IChangeMyCity and follow up on the progress got an issue that plagued the whole of Sanjay Nagar resolved.
