Issue of dangerous electric poles resolved
August 26, 2014• By Sandhya C D'Souza
Few days ago, a child in Someshwara Layout near Hulimavu was severely hurt due to an electric transformer pole which had a metal rod that was dangerously projecting towards the road. Another electric pole nearby, which was tilting towards the road, was a matter of grave concern to the residents of the area.
The residents of Hulimavu raised several complaints to BESCOM, which according to them fell on deaf ears. It was here when IT professional Bhaskar Naik came to know about I Change My City and posted a complaint on the issue on August 19, 2014.
Speaking to I Change My City, he tells that the transformer pole which was installed on a footpath was a nightmare for the pedestrians as well as motorists. The electric pole had a thin metal rod that was attached to it which was jutting out towards the road. It was impossible for people to see the metal rod in the dark and many people walked right into it. This rod posed a great threat to the motorists too, says Naik.
Another electric pole, which was also installed on the footpath dangerously tilted onto the road. People feared that the pole would collapse and injure people, in case of heavy winds or rains.
Naik shared pictures of these dangerous electric poles and also demanded BESCOM to resolve the issues at the earliest.
Within 72 hours of Naik posting the complaint on I Change My City, BESCOM workers repaired the tilting pole. The workers also cut the metal road and shortened it, so that it does not protrude on the road and painted it in bright yellow, so that it could be visible at night.
“I really appreciate I Change My City for taking interest in the issue and helping the residents of Hulimavu in resolving this nightmare,” says Naik who is happy that the issue was solved on top priority.
“I am happy with the work done by the BESCOM. However, electric poles should not be installed on the footpaths as they are a hurdle to the pedestrians and in case such poles exist, they need fencing. I hope that BESCOM fences the electric poles in Hulimavu area and other areas in Bangalore, keeping people’s safety in find. After all, prevention is better than cure,” concludes Naik.
