Resolved: R.K Layout construction woes

It is mandatory to concentrate on civilian safety whenever construction and repair works are taken up. Sadly in India, safety is given the least priority.

Even in a growing metropolitan city like Bangalore, the construction and repair work by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) are undertaken with sheer neglect. It is a common sight to see a road dug up and there will be no barricade or warning which indicates the pedestrian or motorist about the ongoing work. Such negligence is the main cause of mishaps and accidents.

In R.K Layout, Padmanabhanagar, a road was dug up near an intersection for repair work. However, the work was stopped in between and was left incomplete for over a week. This caused problems for pedestrians as well as motorists. With three schools in the area, many children cross the construction site daily.

S. Ravikumar, a resident, decided that he shall not be a mute witness to mishaps. Instead went on to warn the authorities before any possible disaster.

He posted a complaint on ‘I Change My City,’ which was immediately forwarded to BBMP. Within few days, the work was completed and the road was patched up neatly.

Happy that his effort helped in resolving a problem, he says that a quick response by the civic authorities is an encouragement to citizens to voice their grievances.
