March 17, 2016 By Team ICMYC
Local factors, Urban Heat Island effect, along with the impact of climate change is causing temperature rise in our cities, says Professor NH Ravindranath at the Centre for Sustainable Technologies, Indian Institute of Science. "The impact of climate change is irreversible and we are starting to see major socio-economic shifts and challenges, adds Rajiv Chaturvedi, Fellow, IISc. "If we do not confront the issue now, rising mercury levels will cross the threshold of 2 degrees Celsius in the near future, which can be catastrophic", says Rajiv.
