Commuters welcome AC local train service, but with reservations
March 08, 2018 By Team ICMYC
Indian Railways commenced operations on its much-awaited Mumbai AC local train service in December last week from Churchgate to Borivali and then extended it to Virar. The total capacity of the rake is 5,964 passengers with 1,028 seating capacity and 4,936 standing capacity.
The train has many safety features - like automatic closing doors unlike the open ones in the normal locals which cause commuters to fall, emergency communicator which commuters can use to talk directly to the guard. Built on a budget of Rs 54 crores, the train was first to run on Central Railway line but the plan was later changed to ply it on the Western line.
The AC train is likely to ease the pressure on the Mumbai's over burdened suburban train system.
