Q: Why do I need to register (create an account) on ichangemycity?

A: In order to save your location, post a complaint, post a comment, create or join a group, create or join an event, you need to create a username and password and log into the site. You can also sign up through your Facebook or Twitter accounts.

Q: Where can I create an account?

A: At the very top of the site, on every page there is a Register link next to Search. You can also go to: http://ichangemycity.com/user/register?destination=node.

Q: Where is the login page?

A:  You can login here: http://ichangemycity.com/user/login?destination=node.

Q: I can’t remember my username/password! What can I do?

A:  You can retrieve your password by going to: http://ichangemycity.com/user/password.

Q: Where can I change my password?

A:  On the same link as above: http://ichangemycity.com/user/password.

Q: Where can I add/edit my account details?

A:  On the My Account page, you need to click on Edit Account: Click here to edit your account.

Q: Where can I change my screen (user) name?

A:  You cannot change your screen name once you have registered. Every email address has to be associated with one screen name. You are welcome to register a new screen name with another email account.

Q: Where are all my updates stored?

A:  Once you register, you have a user profile page. All your activities on the website such as posting a complaint, creating a group, or an event, aggregate on your profile page. Click here to access your profile.

Report Complaints

As ichangemycity citizens, you can locate the area of your complaint on the map and report your complaint. You can either search for the area on the map, or plot it with the marker on the map. Click here to post a complaint: http://ichangemycity.com/node/add/complaint

Once you submit your complaint, you get an acknowledgement. The websites provides you details about the nearest civic agency you must visit for the resolution of your problem. You also get to see the name/ contact details of your corporator.

The map provides complete address and contact details. The status of a complaint on the site changes as soon as it gets acknowledged by a corporator or MLA, or when it gets resolved. You can reopen a resolved complaint, if you feel the need for it.

See all complaints

You get to see the latest complaints on civic issues in your city and also in your ward. You can comment on a complaint posted by anyone on the site. You can add a picture or video url as part of your comment. You can also share examples of solutions if you know of any in your comment, and tick it as a recommended solution. This way, you can engage in conversations with your neighbours on the issues that bother you all in your neighbourhood, and find solutions collectively. http://ichangemycity.com/complaints

What does ichangemycity do to help

The website forwards the complaints to the relevant civic agencies. Alternately, every complaint related to the agencies aggregate on the individual agency’s page. For eg, all of BBMP’s complaints aggregate on BBMP’s page as shown in the link below:

Every complaint has a unique id. In order to track complaints, you, or any corporator, civic agency official can download all complaints in the form of a CSV file.

How do you resolve complaints?

The website provides you details to get in touch with officers in the civic agency that can address your problem, for eg, how to connect with BWSSB officials in the service station, in your area, for water related issues. Similarly, the website provides details to connect with your corporator.
You can discuss the problem on the complaint forum with your neighbours, and then together meet the agency to fix it. The greater the network of people you have formed around the complaint, higher the chances of the agency fixing it faster.

Create a group / Join a group

As an ichangemycity community member, you can start a group or join an existing one. You can either start or be part of a neighbourhood group, or issue based group. You need to register to start, or be part of a group. Group members can exchange comments and updates about community work in their neighbourhood, also post and track complaints that group members have posted, See all groups listed here

Heirarchy Levels in a Group
  1. Group Creator:  Person who has created the group. Can nominate members of his/her group to be Group Moderators. Group Creators and Moderators enjoy the same privileges. Group Creator can invite others to join the group, create events.
  2. Group Moderator:  Person(s) nominated by the Group Creator to moderate and administrate the group. Group Moderator can invite others to join the group, create events.
  3. Group Members: Person(s) who have been invited to join the group(in case of a private group) or have joined the group (in case of a public group). Group Members can invite others to join the group. Can suggest events for the group.

Start an event / Join an event

As an ichangemycity community member, you can start an event and enlist the support of community members by inviting them to participate in it. You can also show your support by joining an event listed by other community members on the website. You need to register to post, or be part of an event. See all events listed here:

Start a discussion in forum

A message board where you as a community member can start a discussion on anything civic, in the city. You need to register to start a discussion on ichangemycity forum.

Points and Badges

For every activity that you do on the website, you accrue points. For example, on registering, you get 50 points, on posting a complaint, you collect more points and on commenting on a complaint, for example, you collect further more. More details here:
As users keep engaging on the website, ichangemycity recognises you by rewarding you with badges; you can either be an active user, a star user or a champion of change.

Know your area
Once you have located yourself on the website, you can find information specific to your ward such as info on your local civic agencies, your constituency, local elected representatives such as corporator, MLA and MP, polling booth, quality of life in your ward, active communities in your area.

You get to see the latest complaints on civic issues in your city, and once you have located yourself on the website, and registered yourself, you can see all complaints in your area. Find your local civic agencies

Once you have located yourself on the map, you can find all local civic agencies you need to contact for the complaints in your area; for eg, if you have a problem with garbage disposal in your area, you will find details of the local BBMP office. Know your corporator

MLA
Once you have located yourself on the map, the site tells you which ward you belong to, and informs you about the administrator of your ward – the local corporator, MLA. All complaints reported within the ward aggregate on your corporator’s page. The following page lists all of Bangalore’s corporators, MLAs and MPs.
